The expectations were high when GMA Network announced that they will air a local TV series of the classic (or event historic) Japanese anime, Chodenji Machine Voltez V. All eyes and even ears where waiting for news just to be able to glimpse of the 80's robot.
The first teaser was released by GMA pre-pandemic season (sometime 2022). And the clamour and the anticipation became event grander!
After 4 years and 1 billion worth of TV production costs, Voltez V Legacy of GMA will premier this May 8, 2023 and will join the network's line up in GMA Telebabad. Prior the TV series, of Voltez V, a cinema experience that comprises of 3 episodes was shown in all SM Cinemas this April 19 and will run until May 2 - which is already a week extension due the public demand.
I had the chance to watch the movie version last weekend at SM BF, Paranaque and here's why I am giving the movie 4.5 fierce stars out of 5:
- CGI of the movie is SUPERB! For or the fist time, an all-Philippine production delivered a global quality of CG
- OST of Voltez V Legacy made the experience more historic and nostalgic. The rendition of Julie Ann San Jose is to effective and sound so Japanese it made the experience even more surreal
- The entire production is not a cheap or cheesy. It's intensions are clear - simply to capture the heart & pride of Voltez V
I am all praises and kudos to the entire production of Voltez V, Legacy of GMA 7. It's all worth leaving the comfort of your homes and pay P400 for cinema tickets. You are paying for the experience & nostalgia. And of course, it's really nice to say hello to Volte V once again in 2023. After all, it was 45 years ago when we last saw the 5-ship-crew flying in local TV.
May be the only downside of the 2023 version of Voltiez V Legacy is I had to really Google the names of the 5 crew members. I am just being honest! The choices of main characters are no household names we are all occustumed to. But for sure Voltex V will just make them a celebrity and an overnight sensation. It only takes to volt in.
Go watch the movie version and thank me soon for telling you so!
