Fierce & Ugly Review - Christian Baustista's The Way You Look At Me Concert

Jan 28, 8PM, Samsung Theater at Circuit Makati, Christian Bautista celebrates his 20th year in the music industry by staging a one-night concert dubbed, Christian Bautista, The Way You Look at Me. And of course, Fierce Blogs was ever present to witness & download to everyone our review of the said event.

THE FIERCE

The show was obviously packed & SOLD-OUT! The 3 main levels of The Samsung Theater were full and very minimal to none unoccupied seats. Approximate capacity of the stadium is 1,500 (plus) depending on the lay-out etc.

Christian Bautista - The Way You Look at Me

Viewers were serenaded the entire night with Bautista's original ballad hits plus covers he was known for. In fact, 99% of the repertoire is ballad - naturally! The same reason he earned the title, Asia's Romantic Balladeer. Such a fitting name really for the 41-year old who started his music career when he joined Star in a Million  back in 2003.

Program flow of the concert is VERY SEAMLESS, I'd admit! "The Way You Look at Me" the concert were joined by power guests such as: Erik Santos, Morisette, Sam Concepcion, Julie Ann San Jose, The Company with The Manila Symphony Orchestra.  They all came, performed really well without a lengthy drag making the show boring from in & out of guests. The show had the complete element of right production timing without causing too much bore from the audience! I applaud them for this.

The Company - "The Way You Look At Me"

And also includes the song choice of "The Way You Look At Me" played & sang during the performances. It was a run down of the hits that made Bautista really famous and close the the hearts of the Pinoys - and such a phenomenal hit also in Indonesia. In fact, the show was attended by loyal Indonesian fans who flew just to watch the show! Beat that! That's what we really call LOYAL following.

THE UGLY

And now, we talk and digest what really DID NOT work or probably fell short in terms of execution in staging "The Way You Look At Me"...

Christian Bautista

First thing you see when Bautista enters the stage is his gold-eyesore outfit that only works if you are a MAGICIAN performing at Cirque Du Soleil.  In fact, his gold, magician outfit became a show joke! Guests performers, The Company commented, "Mukhang nakakaluwag luwag ka na. Ginto na damit mo. May Gold bar ba yan?" It was really an outfit that is almost difficult to pull-off! If his 1st outfit is for a magician, the second wardrobe is fit for a budding Leprechaun. It was a shiny green overall that shines as far as 20 kilometer distance. It is so blinding and still an eyesore and can distract you from listening intently.  Wardrobe and styling of "The Way You Look At Me" is an outright fail in our department.

Christian Bautista - Gold Outfit

One area that can be done better if only called out to the artist is the way he delivers his SPIELS! The show obviously has a writer for that more dramatic and warm delivery. But the way Bautista delivered them were done in an oratorical way. Every words, pause and were delivered in verbatim according to how the writer has written them. Nothing wrong in reading spiels during shows if you can delivery them with sincerity & warmth. What failed for Bautista is sounding like a robot and funny he reads in between spiels. Even the message he had for wife sounded fake and forced! It could have been a show highlight but instead turned sour.

Christian Bautista - Green Outfit

THE VERDICT

Overall, Bautista's "The Way You Look At Me" is a major success & hit! It deserves to have a part 2 in Indonesia - which is in fact being talked to as early as now. Congratulations to the entire production of the show. Cheers to more heartwarming ballad from Christian Bautista in the coming years. But hopefully this time wearing better outfit and more sincere spiels during concerts.

Moira Dela Torre for Maria Clara Sagria Virgin

T he media launch today we attended is extra special for me. It's quite special in a sense it brings back childhood memories of a favourite drink in my family,  Maria Clara Sangria.  Growing up, I was not allowed to try and drink it because of the alcohol content of the drink. But that's all in the past now. Today, we witnessed that   Distileria Limtuaco and Co. Inc. launches a non-alcoholic drink called, "Maria Clara Sangria Virgin". Moira dela Torre for Maria Clara Sangria Virgin It is the non-alcoholic version of the classic  Maria Clara Sangria we all know. Aside from containing zero percent alcohol, the newest sangria is fruity and flavourful we will surely fall in love with.  "Maria Clara Sangria Virgin" can be enjoyed chilled or served with ice. What is also beautiful with the latest variant of Maria Clara Virgin is that it has very minimal sugar content - for those watching their sugar intake.  Moira dela Torre for Maria Clara Sangria Virgin The la...
